As our global climate changes and the ecological well-being of our planet and its inhabitants is threatened, it is critical that teachers provide their students with a strong understanding and respect for the natural world. This project provides high school biology teachers with a set of nature-based lessons that can be easily integrated into their curriculum.

This project was developed from all that I have learned during my time as a teaching fellow at Maine Coast Semester (MCS), a school that focuses on experiential, nature-based education at the high school level. This project aims to make the nature-based learning that occurs at MCS accessible to teachers in more traditional teaching settings. Each lesson is rooted in an observable natural phenomenon, but connected to a core concept from the AP Biology curriculum. Some lessons can be used with very little preparation, while others will be most powerful if adjusted to connect with the natural environment in their geographical area.
